Training Camp Diaries – June 8

Morning practice concluded with Coach Bart Andrus acknowledging his team’s hardwork and praising them for putting forth a good effort. The team was in full pads for both practices again today and the play was aggressive.

There were more strong individual efforts by players like CB Willie Middlebrooks, who played well yesterday and nearly had an interception today. WR James Robinson climbed the ladder twice to pull in passes and WR Reggie McNeal made some quick cuts and nice catches throughout the day.

The offensive and defensive lineman moved to one-on-one drills where they worked on technique and threw each other around for a while.

The team worked on special teams for the first time during training camp. RB Bryan Crawford took the reigns by calling out the positions and ball locations. TE Steve Schmidt and LB Jean-Nicolas Carriere practiced long snapping to the kickers. DB Pete Hunter had an interception during morning drills and tried to lateral the ball unsuccessfully to LB Kevin Eiben.

Second year OL Mark Dewit had the line of the day. Following afternoon practice, the team broke off into pairs, and Dewit and OT Jonta Woodard worked together to stretch their legs. While working on lower body drills, the 300 pound Dewit proclaimed, “This body was built for flexibility.”
