Head Coach Bart Andrus continues to work with his quarterbacks. The team was in full equipment during morning practice, but they earned the right to wear shorts instead of game pants with pads during afternoon practice.
ABOUT THE QUATERBACKS
During quarterback target practice QB Cody Pickett launched a perfect spiral pass more than 40 yards which landed in the centre of the basket. “I’m just working hard in practice”, Pickett said of his pin point accuracy. “It feels good to see the hard work pay off, and it showed with that throw.” He concluded.
During the afternoon practice, also at QB target practice, Kerry Joseph launched a ball that looked like it sail perfectly into the centre of the mesh target. A member of the equipment staff carted the target away as the ball was in mid-air and Joseph couldn’t watch his potential perfect pass swish into the netting. The moment caused an explosion of laughter between the receivers, quarterbacks the coaching staff and the fans.
There was another laugh-out-loud moment when the quarterbacks practiced positioning themselves to make the tackle after tossing an interception. Equipment Assistant Tom Bryce caught a Cody Pickett pass and as Tom, also a marathon runner, darted back he did his best Chris Berman impersonation screaming “HE COULD GO ALL THE WAY!”
Some receivers are also making a big impact. Reggie McNeil was one of those receivers to make a big play. The group is coming together, and collectively they are a very fast unit that is ready to make a big impact for the Argos.
Coach Andrus has made it clear throughout the training camp that hard work and hustling are a couple keys to making this team. CB Matt Black and DB Sammy Joseph have really shown that they can hustle even long after the play is done.
K/P Eddie Johnson showed his punting skills at the morning practice, as he booted a few punts that went as far as 60 yards.
Despite not being in full equipment in the afternoon, there were still some hard hits being delivered. Just ask Tyler Scott, right after he caught a nice pass from Kerry Joesph, he narrowly missed being levelled by two on coming linebackers. The fans in the stands let out a gasp of relief when he jumped back up and trotted back the huddle.
Arland Bruce III was making big plays again; notably a spectacular catch on a deep pass from Joseph that he pulled in behind the coverage.
During skelly in the afternoon practices, the defence was really strong, making tackles, and breaking up plays, including a nice interception by rookie DB Lin-J Shell.
NOTES: Most of the team, especially the veterans, circled the television in the locker room to watch the debut of Argos Access. Arland Bruce cheered, “I’m going to win a grammy” when he heard the song he wrote played at the end of the show…All in the family – Both Ed O’Neil’s son, Keith, and Bart Andrus’ son, Travis, arrived at camp today.
