The Toronto Argonauts Football Club would like to congratulate veteran LB Kevin Eiben on reaching his 504th defensive tackle as a member of the Double Blue.
With Eiben’s first tackle tonight in Calgary, he surpassed All-Time Argos LB Don Moen on the Argos all time career defensive tackle list with 504. This places Eiben in second on the club’s all-time list, trailing only Mike O’Shea’s record of 822 tackles as an Argo.
What is most impressive is that he passed Moen’s record in only his ninth Canadian Football League season. Moen reached the 503 mark in 13 years. Although he is behind O’Shea’s pace (590 tackles in 9 years), Eiben is a legitimate threat to contend for that record.
Eiben played four years at Bucknell College, starting 33 games and breaking several school records, including the single game interception record with four. While he was at Bucknell, he was tabbed an American Football Coaches All-American, a second-team AP Division 1-AA All-American, and a first-team All-Patriot League Selection. After Bucknell, Eiben was drafted in the fourth round by Toronto in 2001. Since then, Eiben has gone on to lead the CFL in special teams tackles in 2003, be named East division All-Star four times (2004-2007), be named a CFL All-Star three times (2004-2005, 2007), win the Lew Hayman Award as the East Division’s Outstanding Canadian twice (2004-2005), and lead in the CFL in defensive tackles twice (2004-2005).
