As Argos cheerleaders, we are fortunate enough to get to experience some amazing things. We get to immerse ourselves in the community and work with kids, dance to pump-up our fans and support our team, and participate in photo shoots.
There are two main photo shoots that we do throughout the season; the first is for the argonauts.ca website, and the second is for our calendar that we put out each year. It is both a nerve-racking and exciting experience, because these photos are going to represent you for an entire year. What is great about our photo shoots is that we get to take photos the show how beautiful each and every cheerleader is in a tasteful manner. We are a family and community-oriented team, and I am proud to show family, friends, and fans my pictures.
For me, the biggest photo shoot has to be the calendar shoot. This is my second year on the team, and my second time being in the calendar. I was just as nervous this year as I was last year, but I knew we had a great concept that the fans would love. It is a chance for me to step out of my everyday life, and feel a like a mini-celebrity for a day.
This year, the photo shoot took two days, but weeks and weeks of preparation to get there. With hours of work put into what each shot would look like, who would be in each picture, what we would wear, hair, make-up, and more, our team manager Paola Cimitan and photographer Craig Boyko worked tirelessly to put it all together. One of our own cheerleaders – Nadia – had a hand in creating some of the outfits, which really made it a team effort. In each and every photograph, we look like strong and beautiful women. It is just one more perk of being an Argos Cheerleader and something that each of us will have as a life-long memory. How many people can say they were a professional cheerleader and got the opportunity to put out an amazing calendar?! I truly feel blessed that I get to share something that I am so proud of with all the fans. It is even more special when fans who are visiting from all over the country purchase a calendar, and we know that a little piece of the Argos is represented all across Canada.
