Alouettes RB Avon Cobourne had a career-high 193 yards on the ground on 23 carries and currently leads the league in rushing with 1,043 yards heading into the matchup with the Boatmen.
They sit atop the CFL East Division with only 2 losses to their name and the Montreal Alouettes have yet to face a must-win situation this season. If there were such a thing as a must-win for Anthony Calvillo and his crew, last week was about as close as they were going to get to it, at least in the regular season anyway.
On the road in hostile territory and facing a Hamilton Tiger-Cats team that had threatened to creep up on the Als, Montreal rolled into Steeltown and reminded everyone why they pose the league’s best record, handling the ‘Cats 42-8.
This week, the Als continue their tour of Southern Ontario with a stop at Rogers Centre. They face an Argos team that has worked hard the last few weeks only to fall short after a win over the Tiger-Cats in the Labour Day rematch.
The Argos defence has been one of the CFL’s best and will face a stiff test against one of the league’s premier offensive units, led by reigning Offensive Player of the Week RB Avon Cobourne. The rusher had a career-high 193 yards on the ground on 23 carries and currently leads the league in rushing with 1,043 yards heading into the matchup with the Boatmen.
On the opposite side of the ball, the Alouettes’ defence has been on top of the CFL all season long and is currently getting an additional boost from rookie outside linebacker Ramon Guzman. Guzman stepped into the lineup early in the season in place of a then-injured Diamond Ferri and has yet to leave the Als’ linebacking corps.
In his rookie season with the Als, Guzman has recorded 16 defensive tackles, 2 quarterback sacks and 2 interceptions. Not earth-shattering numbers by any means, but it is his ability to make plays at key times that has earned him respect from the Als brass.
