On a 6-yard carry in the first quarter of the Argos’ Friday night matchup with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, RB Jamal Robertson joined a very exclusive club. He not only became the fifth CFL’er to reach 1,000 yards rushing this season but he is also just the sixth Argos running back to rush for over 1,000 yards in a season – ever. Heading into tonight’s contest, Robertson was on pace to finish with 1,188 yards and over 10 touchdowns.
Previously, the mark had only been set by five (5) other Argos backs. Most recently, Michael Jenkins, who hit the mark twice, rushed for 1,184 yards in 2001. Prior to Jenkins’ 1,000-yard seasons in 2000 and 2001 were Bill Symons (1968), Doyle Orange (1975), Gil Fenerty (1989) and Robert Drummond (1997). The milestone also marks the first time in his professional career that Robertson has raced for more than 1000 yards in a season.

Other notable milestones that Robertson could reach in 2009:
» On pace to score 10 rushing touchdowns this season. Doing so would put him in reach of the single-season team record of 12 running majors held by Gil Fenerty (1987) and Robert Drummond (1997).
» He is also on pace to finish with 224 carries on the season. It would be the third-highest single-season total in team history behind Michael Jenkins (271 in 2001) and Gil Fenerty (245 in 1989).
