TORONTO – On Sunday, October 18, 2009, the Toronto Argonauts will partner once again with The Salvation Army to serve a community dinner for more than 600 at The Toronto Harbour Light, 160 Jarvis Street, Toronto starting at 1:00pm.
This year’s event marks the 12th anniversary of the partnership between the Toronto Argonauts and The Salvation Army. The Salvation Army would like to recognize the Argonauts for their continued dedication and support in helping serve meals to the marginalized and desperately needy of our community.
Rob Hardy, Community Ministries Director for The Salvation Army Toronto Harbour Light Corps said, “The goal of this event is to partner with a great organization like the Argos and provide families and individuals attending with a good meal. If we are able to lessen the burden for just one family, or brighten the day of just one child, I believe that our goal has been achieved”.
The Salvation Army is an international Christian organization that began its work in Canada in 1882 and has grown to become the largest non-governmental direct provider of social services in the country. The Salvation Army gives hope and support to vulnerable people today and everyday in 400 communities across Canada and 118 countries around the world. The Salvation Army offers practical assistance for children and families, often tending to the basic necessities of life, provides shelter for homeless people and rehabilitation for people who have lost control of their lives to an addiction.
