Toronto – In an effort to help build and promote high school football, the Toronto Argonauts are sending out weekly updates on the teams in the TDSB Varsity Development Tier 2 League throughout the high school football season.
The coaches from each team in the Varsity Development Tier 2 League were invited to submit their team’s MVP based on both on-field and off-field performance. Here are the team MVPs for the week ending October 23:
Sir Sandford Fleming Academy
MVP: Khalid Omar
Position: Slotback, PR, KR
Grade: 12
Coaches: Barton Harvey, Ian Vincent, Geoff Sura
“As much as we would like to spread the wealth, Khalid Omar will again be our team MVP for the THIRD week in a row. He again scored 2 touchdowns in our huge win over Westview but this time accomplished the feat through a 55-yard interception return and a 61-yard punt return! He is a leader for our undefeated Chargers both on the field and off. He has taken over the game each week for us. Everyone is waiting to see what he does in week 4.”

“Blay showed outstanding leadership in motivating his teammates with his strong defensive play. He consistently works hard in practice and it shows up on game day.”

“Adian played a terrific game and remained focused throughout all four quarters. He not only scored an amazing touchdown for the Saints, but continuously encouraged all of his teammates to push hard and play until the end.”

Position: Defensive Back

“Mathieu consistently blocks and tackles 2 or more guys each play. One play saw him block two guys at the same time, one on each arm. In another play, he went down with the first block but still managed to get a piece of another player with one arm and take him down too. Offensive players be warned – you are not going to get by Mathieu.”

“This week, Chris scored 3 touchdowns, recorded 3 QB sacks and recovered his own punt. All of this was done in front of our homecoming crowd in our first home football game in 23 years. Chris was also instrumental in preparing for this week’s game by assisting other players in practice.”

Position: Safety

“Ivan Kizito didn’t score a touchdown, he didn’t make any interceptions for returns, but his overall play, leadership, voice on the field and coverage was amazing. He truly was the icing on the defensive cake. Ivan made sure no one made it behind him up, keeping solid pursuit routes, yelling run plays and throws to the other defensive player, and helping to provide coverage on cue for blitz plays. Ivan deserves the MVP status.”
