Some people outside of Canada have a skewed image of our great country. Some think we all live in igloos and play hockey and say EH! after every word. Typical Canadian stereotypes. Well, clothing company Roots is now drawing inspiration from those stereotypes, and they’re using it as motivation for their new line entitled “Canada Collection by Roots.” The line was unveiled last Thursday night, at the Roots store on Bloor (Yorkville). Of course, to show off these new duds, in support of Right to Play Canada, models were needed so they turned to the Boatmen. Toronto Argonauts players Bryan Crawford and Alphonso Hodge walked the runway, strutted their goods and mingled with everyone in attendance to help raise funds and awareness for Right to Play Canada.
They weren’t, however, the only athletes at the event. Making guest appearances to show their support for the new line and for the cause were Jamie Sale, famous figure skater, and local kayaker Adam Van Koeverden.
In addition to toques, sweaters and scarves, Roots is also selling blankets, mitts, and maple sugar. A portion of proceeds go to Right to Play, a Canadian based organization helping kids around the world with disease, poverty, and war. If you want to help, you can go online to www.righttoplay.com.
