Mississauga – The Toronto Argonauts Football Club has re-signed the second York University alumnus in as many days as veteran running back Jeff Johnson joins Andre Durie in Double Blue through the 2011 season. Durie re-signed with the Argos yesterday through 2012.
Jeff Johnson, a Toronto native and Mississauga resident, is the longest-serving CFL veteran on the Argos. 2010 will mark his 11th season in the CFL and 9th with the Argonauts. Despite being sidelined with a triceps injury the first three weeks of the season, Johnson finished the 2009 campaign with 14 receptions for 80 yards, 15 carries for 52 yards, 3 touchdowns, 1 DT and 4 special teams tackles. A stabilizing and productive force on offence and special teams, #33 also helped lead the return of football to 4 GTA high schools through The Argos Foundation’s Level The Playing Field program where he is the player ambassador for North Albion Collegiate Institute.
Throughout his stalwart career, Johnson has played in 169 regular season games, 133 for the Boatmen, and 12 playoff games, scored 15 touchdowns, made 93 total tackles and countless blocks and was part of the 2004 Grey Cup championship team.
Johnson remarked, “It’s an absolute honour and privilege to be able to extend my contract with the Argos through the 2011 season. I look forward to helping the Double Blue return to our winning ways. The Toronto fans are like none other – they stick with us and we ride together.”
