Mississauga – The Toronto Argonauts have casted DB Ahmaad Smith for a leading role in this year’s training camp. The former Tennessee State University player, who was a quarter finalist in Michael Irvin’s reality TV show “4th and Long”, has a signed a contract with the club.
Smith was one of 12 contestants on the reality TV show that saw the eventual winner (WR Jesse Holley) earn a spot on the Dallas Cowboys’ 80-man roster for 2009 training camp. Smith competed in weekly head-to-head challenges against each of the other participants and was one of two defensive backs to make it into the final week.
A star basketball player in high school who didn’t play his first down of football until he was a senior, Smith played four seasons of both football and basketball at TSU before suiting up for two different arena football teams and attending training camp with the B.C. Lions in 2008. Smith’s dad still holds several receiving records at TSU and his godfather is Richard Dent of the fabled 1985 Chicago Bears.
