The Toronto Argonauts Football Club are saddened by the passing of one of its most dedicated season ticket holders. Ernest “Ernie” Morton, who was an Argos season ticket holder for 62 years, passed away on Monday at the age of 89.
Last season, Ernie was honoured by being named as the Argonauts’ “Fan of the Game” last season after being recognized for his dedication to the Double Blue since 1947. Ernie’s family recalls that he spoke fondly of being a special guest in Michael ‘Pinball’ Clemons’ private box at an Argos home game in 2009.
Formerly a music teacher, Morton sat on numerous boards including the Toronto District School Board, Royal Canadian Legion, War Veterans Association, among others.

Peacefully, at Toronto, on Monday, March 22, 2010, in his 90th year. Beloved husband of the late Elizabeth “Betty”, for over 60 years. Much loved father of Joann (Nepean) and Diane (Toronto). Loving son of the late James and Gertrude, and brother of the late Norman. Dear brother-in-law of Muriel, uncle of Donna and her husband Bill, and great-uncle of Katherine and Morgan. Ernie had a symphony of friends and will be remembered for his friendliness, sense of humour and his reminiscing from the string section of the orchestra. Ernie was recently honoured as “Player of the Game” by the Toronto Argonauts for being a 62-year season subscriber.
Friends will be received at the Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor St. W., Toronto, at Windermere, east of the Jane subway, on Thursday from 6 – 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 – 4 and 6 – 9 p.m. Masonic Service Thursday 6 p.m. Legion Service Friday 7:30 p.m. Funeral Service to be held at York Memorial Presbyterian Church, 1695 Keele St., at Donald Ave., on Saturday, March 27, 2010 at 12 noon, with visitation at church one hour prior to service time. Interment Glendale Memorial Gardens. In celebration of Ernest’s life, remembrances may be made to the Salvation Army, or to the CNIB.
