MISSISSAUGA – Toronto Argonauts General Manager/VP, Football Operations Adam Rita met with media Tuesday afternoon to provide an update on the status of K Justin Medlock. Medlock exercised his option and signed with the Washington Redskins of the NFL on February 12. On Monday night he was released by the Redskins.
“He’s a very good field goal kicker with a lot of distance and a lot of leg. I would imagine that (our coaches) will have to give him a pretty serious look,” Rita said of Medlock.
Medlock now has 10 days to decide whether or not he wants to continue pursuing NFL aspirations before returning to the Argonauts. Rita did indicate, however, that the two had spoken via e-mail and that what he read seemed promising.
“It might be an option (bringing Medlock back to the Argos) sooner than later. The coaches will talk about it and we will take it from there,” Rita stated. “His e-mail sounded like he was eager to get back (to Toronto).”
Medlock played in 17 regular season games last season with Toronto, making good on 40 of 46 field goals and punting for 5,076 yards. In August of 2009, he was named CFL Special Teams Player of the Month.
