SCARBOROUGH – Argos head coach Jim Barker confirmed this afternoon that RB Cory Boyd will be moved to the injured list when his team hosts the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Sunday afternoon.
“It’s his third concussion and that is protocol,” said Barker. “We are not going to [take chances] when it comes to a player’s head, he will not play this week”.
Barker’s precaution comes after the league’s leading rusher absorbed a hit early in the third quarter against the B.C. Lions last week and was forced to leave the game. Boyd joined his team at practice on Wednesday but with the exception of conversing with teammates before drills, spent the entire practice watching from the sidelines.
Boyd’s absence leaves a gaping hole for the Double Blue to fill on offence with raw newcomer Mike Ford as the only import running back on the roster. Potential replacements could also include veteran backs Byran Crawford and Jeff Johnson, as well as Andre Durie.
