MONCTON — The Toronto Argonauts boarded a plane in Mississauga last night not entirely aware of what they would be walking into when they landed in Moncton. While the flight itself was uneventful, the warm welcome the team received as they entered the airport was suitable for a king.

Minor football teams formed a tunnel to greet the team and it was clear from the expressions on the Argos players’ faces that they were overwhelmed by the outpouring of support. A small Gaelic band filled the baggage claim area with spirited music from two fiddles and an acoustic guitar. Locals made fresh baked goods with seafood spread that they passed along to the team, and minor football players stopped the players for autographs. Media snapped photos and members of the Touchdown Atlantic committee were all smiles.
In all, 55 Argos players boarded the plane along with another 23 team personnel members. The players participate in their first practice today at Rocky Stone Field, in the heart of Moncton, then head into team meetings for most of the night. Argonauts fans should meet at the Old Triangle (751 Main St.) which is located downtown. That’s where the Double Blue Bash will be held on Saturday and will generally be regarded as the Argos’ home base.
