TORONTO – In September, the Toronto Argonauts Football Club announced the second year of a multi-faceted mentorship and funding program entitled Level The Playing Field, sponsored by Tim Hortons, in partnership with The Argos Foundation, the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) and the Toronto Foundation for Student Success. The program helped return football teams return to three Toronto-area high schools and revitalize ten other football programs. Through a $10,000 donation to each school, Downsview Secondary School, Sir Robert L. Borden B.T.I. and Thistletown Collegiate Institute are each fielding a football team this fall, after many years of not having teams. In all, TDSB high school football will receive $80,000 in funding in the 2010 season through Level The Playing Field. The new high school football teams all play in the TDSB Varsity Development Tier 2 League. In an effort to help build and promote high school football, the Argos will send out weekly updates on the teams in this league throughout the high school football season.
The coaches from each team in the Varsity Development League were invited to submit their team’s MVP based on both on-field and off-field performance. Here are the team MVPs for the week ending October 15:
Downsview Secondary School
MVP: Quinn Charles

“Quinn came out on Day One of football and immediately made an impression with his leg. The soccer player has been a real bright spot for Downsview this season, kicking 8/8 on PAT attempts so far this season. Quinn was injured for the Week 2 game, but returned this week and kicked 3 PATs to help Downsview to a 21-19 victory over Thistletown at the Rogers Centre. For a Grade 9 student, Quinn’s athleticism and enthusiasm, not to mention his steady leg and cucumber-cool nerves when kicking, have been impressive, and we would not be 3-0 and alone in 1st place in the West without him!”
