The Toronto Argonauts would like to congratulate former all-star halfback and kick returner Ted Toogood on his induction into the Etobicoke Sports Hall of Fame. He’ll officially be honoured at a dinner later tonight and former teammates and friends, Nick Volpe and Zeke O’Connor will speak on his behalf.
Toogood played five seasons with the Argonauts (1950-1954) and won two Grey Cups during his time, including the now famous Mud Bowl. A sports enthusiast, Toogood is also earning induction based on his time spent at Ryerson University where he helped establish their football team, serving as both athletic director and coach. The team played from 1949 until 1964.
In 1960, Toogood joined the staff at Burnamthorpe Collegiate Institute, and later Etobicoke Collegiate Institute, as a physical education and health teacher, and coach.
Toogood will enter the ESHOF with Jim Bannon, Ken Gibb, Bob Harris, Brian Hoskins, Gerry Meehan and Brendan Shanahan.
The Argos will honour Toogood’s Mud Bowl team this Friday when they take on the Montreal Alouettes at Rogers Centre with a halftime celebration and concourse exhibit. The exhibit will feature an autograph sigining with members of the Mud Bowl team from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. and a display or rare artifacts such as game used jerseys, helmets, footballs, newspaper clippings, videos and much more.
