There are many old sports clichés that bridge the comparison between war and the playing field. Terms such as ‘in the trenches’ and ‘on the field of battle’ are almost commonplace in sport, especially in football.
As we take this day, Remembrance Day, to reflect on and appreciate those who have served our great nation in battle, the Toronto Argonauts would like to recognize Mike Mizzi, a longtime Toronto Argonauts supporter who has spent the last three-and-a-half years in the Canadian Armed Forces.
Mizzi is a Royal Canadian Dragoon from CFB Petawawa and is currently serving in Afghanistan. In January of this year, he was also deployed to Haiti for two months to help with disaster relief efforts as part of the D.A.R.T. team.
A dedicated Argos fan, Mike tries to attend as many games and practices as he can in the little time that he has to return home. This season, he was able to take part in the Argos’ home opener when he and his regiment sat in the club’s Support The Troops section on July 14.
