MISSISSAUGA – The Toronto Argonauts Football Club announced today that it will welcome back import DL Matthias Askew and that import LB Anthony Cannon has been added to the roster.
Askew first joined Toronto as a free agent in October 2010. He spent the month on the team’s practice roster assimilating to the CFL game and showing the Argos coaching staff his skills. The Michigan State product was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in the fourth round of the 2004 NFL Draft and has also had stops with NFL teams in Washington, Denver and Detroit.
Anthony Cannon spent three seasons with the Detroit Lions after they drafted him in the seventh round of the 2006 NFL Draft. Prior to that, he played four years for the Tulane Green Wave where he was named First-Team All-Conference as a senior. Cannon attended high school in Georgia along with Argos teammates Byron Parker and Michael Grant, as well as CFL player Sean Lucas. In the off-season, he lives in Atlanta, Georgia where he mentors at-risk youth and runs an after school program called Elev8 Performance which teaches life skills to youth.
