MISSISSAUGA – The Toronto Argonauts Football Club is pleased to welcome back import DB Dovonte Edwards and introduce free agent imports DL Chris Bradwell, QB B.J. Hall, LB Durell Mapp and CB Armando Murillo.
Edwards returns after playing 18 games, with eight starts at defensive back, cornerback and kick returner, for the Argos in 2009. Prior to joining the Argos, he played 17 games with the Minnesota Vikings and Detroit Lions of the NFL. Edwards suffered a serious leg injury before the 2010 season and spent the year rehabilitating in his hometown in North Carolina.
Chris Bradwell split his college career between Florida State, Northeast Mississippi C.C. and Troy University, where he eventually finished his career. He was a Junior College All-American and Defensive Player of the Year at Mississippi, and was Sunbelt Newcomer of the Year in his only season at Troy. Bradwell has had practice roster stints with the NFL’s St. Louis Rams and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Quarterback B.J. Hall has a passion for football. He heeded the advice a mentor once gave him which was, ‘in order to improve and learn you always need to be playing the game.’ Since graduating from Webber International in 2006, he has played in three different leagues and on six different teams. He even played at three different colleges (Troy, Solano C.C. and Webber) during his quest to play football. While at Solano, he suited up at QB, WR, DB, KR and PR earning him First-Team All-Conference as a utility player. His pro career has had stops with the Lehigh Valley Outlawz (CIFL), New Mexico Wildcats (AIFA) where he threw 41 touchdowns and was named an all-star, Tampa Bay Storm (AFL), Dallas Vigilantes (AFL), Iowa Barnstormers (AFL) and Tucson Thunder Kats (AIFA).
Durell Mapp was a walk-on at the University of North Carolina who worked his way up to become a starter as a senior. A player with a powerful motor, Mapp averaged 11 tackles/game in his final season as a Tar Heel. Following college, he signed with the NFL’s Green Bay Packers and has also spent time with the Columbus Lions of the SIFL.
Armando Murillo played two seasons and 24 games for the powerhouse Nebraska Cornhuskers. Prior to joining Nebraska, the Tampa, Florida native played two seasons at Eastern Arizona Community College where he made 10 interceptions and was a First-Team All-American. He has since had tryouts with the Omaha Nighthawks (UFL) and the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The Toronto Argonauts also announced today that DB Isaiah Gardner and QB Matt Grothe have been released.
