MISSISSAUGA – Argos GM & Head Coach Jim Barker was short on words when he addressed the media on Monday after practice. Partly because it was too early in the week to provide a clear prognosis on his injured players that went down Saturday afternoon at Rogers Centre.
Starting quarterback Cleo Lemon was absent from the club’s practice facility today as he was having more work done to repair an injury sustained to his teeth after absorbing a huge hit by Blue Bombers’ linebacker Joe Lobendahn.
“I don’t know, I haven’t seen him yet,” Barker said when asked if Lemon will start this Friday in Edmonton. “We will see how he is. I’m not going to put him in danger and this is a lot more serious than having a tooth pop out. This was a split nerve [among other things].”
Lemon was having arguably his most successful drive of the season before his injury, going a perfect 5-for-5 for 58 yards and one touchdown series.
On the other side of the ball, the Argos lost four key defenders, three to injury and one to ejection (Ejiro Kuale). Defensive halfbacks Lin-J Shell and Evan McCollough left the game in the third quarter and were soon joined by rookie linebacker Anthony Cannon.
Being only the first practice of the week, Barker was not able to offer an extensive update on any of the three except to say that Cannon and Shell had suffered quad injuries while McCollough is nursing a hamstring injury. All three sat out of practice today.
