TORONTO – The Scotiabank Labour Day Weekend kicks off on Friday night as the 2-6 Toronto Argonauts host the 2-6 B.C. Lions at 7:30 p.m. at Rogers Centre. Both teams need to improve their records following the bye week and are on 1-game winning streaks heading into the match. In 2007, the Argos also began the season 2-6 and wound up finishing first in the East, hosting the East Final.
The national anthem will be performed by Mimoza, a final six competitor on the YTV reality show, The Next Star. The show is a competition to find the most talented singer in Canada under 15 years of age. The game will also honour local heroes, with vintage Police, Fire and EMS vehicles positioned outside the stadium. A moment of silence will be observed to honour local service members and the Canadian Honour Guard will be present for the anthem. Josh, the game’s Scotiabank Kid Captain, will handle coin toss duties, along with Scotiabank representative Mike McKiel. The Argos Fan Tunnel will feature students from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College and the Visiting Team Tunnel will be formed by North York Minor Football. Halftime is packed with entertainment including a special version of the Scotiabank ‘Show Your Colours’ Flag Race, the Supernova Disc Dogs and performers from AB Dance.
The pre-game festivities begin at 6:00 p.m. outside of Gate 11 at Rogers Centre with inflatables, music, the Toronto Sun photowall, a Marc Angelo Foods barbeque and samples of poutine. Additionally, Jones Soda will be sampling product outside Gate 5.
Argos fans are encouraged to take advantage of Scotiabank Cardholder Benefits including exclusive red carpet access at Gate 6 simply by showing their Scotiabank payment card. Fans can buy one bronze ticket and receive a second courtesy of Scotiabank when they use their Scotiabank payment card (some conditions apply). As well, Argos supporters who spend $50 or more with their Scotiabank payment card will receive a Toronto Argonauts car flag.
After the game, fans are invited to head over to the Official Post-Game Party at Jack Astor’s, 144 Front Street West, to say hi to some of your favourite Argos players and the 2011 Argos Cheerleaders, presented by the Toronto Sun. Select domestic beer is available for only $4 (plus taxes) after the game.
