MISSISSAUGA – The Toronto Argonauts would like to congratulate WR/KR Chad Owens on being named CFL Special Teams Player of the Week for his Week 10 performance against the B.C. Lions. This is the sixth time in his career, first time in 2011, that he’s won this award.
Owens was electrifying on special teams during Friday night’s game. He scored his first career kickoff return touchdown (91 yards) and set a new club record with 245 total kickoff return yards (just 12 yards from setting a new single-game league record). Owens also returned 4 punts for 48 yards and tied his personal single-game career best with 309 combined yards.
The 91-yards score was the eighth-longest kickoff return in team history. It was also his fifth career kick return major and tied Owens with Jimmy ‘The Jet’ Cunningham and Dominique Dorsey for third-most career kick return touchdowns in club history.
Owens and his teammates travel to Vancouver this week to take on the B.C. Lions in the second game of a home-and-home series, then head to Regina to battle the Saskatchewan Roughriders in CFL Week 12 action before returning home on Saturday, September 24 to host the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
