TORONTO – With both teams coming off victories last week, the Toronto Argonauts can close the gap in the race for the playoffs with a win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats this Saturday at 7:00 p.m. at Rogers Centre. Last week’s hard-fought battle prompted linebacker Ejiro Kuale to guarantee Argos fans another win this week. Certainly the storied rivalry between the Argos and Ticats needs no spark but Kuale’s comments did just that, and Saturday’s game, presented by Purolator, is sure to be a battle to the finish.
Fans can help the Argos score a victory for our community off the field as part of the Purolator Tackle Hunger food drive in support of the Daily Bread Food Bank. Help tackle hunger in the GTA in time for Thanksgiving by bringing a non-perishable food item or cash donation to the Purolator and Food Bank volunteers stationed around Rogers Centre and get a photo with the Grey Cup at Gate 5 as of 5:00 p.m. and enter a draw to win an autographed Steven Jyles jersey. In its 9th season, the Purolator Tackle Hunger program has delivered over 4 MILLION pounds of food for local food banks across Canada
The pre-game festivities begin at 5:00 p.m. outside of Gate 11 at Rogers Centre with inflatables, music, the Toronto Sun photowall, a Marc Angelo Foods barbeque and samples of Jones Soda. The Argos will also be hosting a group of 200 high school and college students for a special pre-game seminar on sports business management beginning at 4:30 p.m.
As part of the third year of the Level The Playing Field program, presented by Tim Hortons, the SATEC at W.A. Porter Blue Eagles, who have taken the field for the first time since 2003, will be introduced with the Argos during player introductions. The program has seen the return of football to 10 TDSB high schools since inception and features funding, mentorship and team-building.
The halftime show features the Wendy’s Kick for a Million Eastern Quarter Finals, where Mike Tompkins from Brockville will face off against Nick Green from Mississauga to move on to the Wendy’s Kick for a Million semi-finals in Hamilton on October 7. The finals will take place here in Toronto on October 14, where one lucky winner will kick for a chance at $1 million dollars.
After the game, fans are invited to head over to the Official Post-Game Party at Jack Astor’s, 144 Front Street West, to say hi to some of your favourite Argos players and the 2011 Argos Cheerleaders, presented by the Toronto Sun. Select domestic beer is available for only $4 (plus taxes) after the game.
