MONTREAL — The Toronto Argonauts would like to congratulate QB Anthony Calvillo on surpassing former Argos pivot Damon Allen on pro-football’s all-time passing yards mark against the Double Blue on Monday afternoon.
With a 50-yard pass to receiver Jamel Richardson in the third quarter of Monday afternoon’s game at Molson Stadium, Calvillo surpassed Allen’s all-time mark of 72,381 career passing yards.
“On behalf of the entire CFL, congratulations to Anthony on all of the records he has set, and for everything else he’s accomplished along the way,” said CFL Commissioner Mark Cohon.
Commissioner Cohon was in attendance at today’s game for a special on-field ceremony to celebrate Calvillo’s latest accomplishments. The Commissioner presented Calvillo with a commemorative plaque that read:
“Many athletes win. A few lead. And the very best inspire. Anthony Calvillo has done all three.”
Earlier this season, Calvillo also broke Allen’s career passing touchdowns record, throwing his 395th touchdown pass to Eric Deslauriers in front of his home crowd in Montreal against the Argos. Three weeks later at Rogers Centre, Calvillo connected with Brandon London on an eighteen-yard pass for his 5,159th career pass completion, breaking the record set by Allen in 2007.
Calvillo now chases another league record held by Allen: career pass attempts. He went into tonight’s game 627 pass attempts short of exceeding Allen’s record of 9,138 career pass attempts.
