Head 2 Head: Owens/taylor

After being named the CFL 2009 Most Outstanding Special Teams Player for the Montreal Alouettes, Larry Taylor signed with the New York Jets in 2010. He returned to the Als for one-game last season, before signing with Calgary as a free agent.
 
Despite spending most of last year on the Jets’ practice roster, Taylor has not missed a beat this season. The Stamps kick returner is third in the CFL in return yards with 1,476 yards, only 21 behind BC’s Tim Brown.
 
Taylor gives the Stamps a threat to score from anywhere on the field, and last week he gave Calgary a huge spark when he returned a Paul McCallum missed field goal 122-yards to give his team a late 31-29 lead in B.C.
 
The diminutive Taylor will look to stay hot against the Argos and put the Stampeders in a position to win a pivotal game on their schedule.

On Monday, the Flyin’ Hawaiian moved closer to becoming the first player in professional football history to record consecutive seasons with 3,000 combined yards.

Owens wracked-up 184 yards against the Alouettes, highlighted by a 58-yard punt return touchdown. He needs 385 yards to reach 3,000 and is just behind last year’s pace – through 15 games in 2010, Owens had 2,550 combined yards.
 
The Honolulu native has returned two kicks for touchdowns this year, after having four last season. His touchdowns may be down this year but, as his spectacular run-back against Montreal showcased, he remains as elusive as ever.
 
Since joining Toronto in June 2010, Owens has given Argos fans something to cheer about, and despite the clubs record, Owens’ teammates know the significance of the milestone he is approaching, and will be working hard to clear the way for #2.
