Argos Mourn The Loss Of Former Lineman Doug Mcnichol

TORONTO – The Toronto Argonauts Football Club is saddened to learn that former defensive linemen Doug McNichol passed away on Wednesday.  A versatile defender that played both defensive tackle and rush end, McNichol played in 26 regular season games and 3 playoff games for the Boatmen from 1961-1963 after coming over in a trade with the Montreal Alouettes.

A first round draft pick by the Als in 1953, McNichol was named East Division rookie of the year, a six-time East Division All-Star and an All-Canadian twice throughout a stellar 11-year career in the CFL.

A graduate of Western University (formerly Western Ontario), McNichol entered the 1953 draft with a Yates Cup championship and a team MVP award under his belt.

Following his CFL career, the lineman was involved in local minor football in the GTA, coaching the East York Argonauts and the Bramalea Satellites to championships.

In 2008, he was inducted into the Etobicoke Sports Hall of Fame.  He is survived by his three children, Scott, Cameron and Clara, and his two grandchildren.
