The Toronto Argonauts opened 2012 Rookie Camp today at their practice facility at the University of Toronto Mississauga campus. As the players strapped on the pads and made their way onto the practice field, head coach Scott Milanovich quickly showed some of the qualities that have made him successful in his career.
As Milanovich led his team through drills, QB Ricky Ray found his rhythm within Milanovich’s offence and built chemistry with the rookie receivers. Ricky’s pinpoint passes that have made him a CFL All-Star were on display today as he found receivers in tight windows of defensive coverage.
2011 draft pick WR Julian Feoli-Gudino was a standout today as he made a few tough catches in both the one-on-one drills and also in pass skelly. Also impressing on the offensive side was 2012 draft pick Aaron Crawford who showed glimpses of success in his new found role as a fullback.
After being released from the team in 2011 due to injuries, RB Gerald Riggs made a return to Toronto for his second rookie camp. Riggs did not miss a step as he turned heads with his impressive performance on the ground on Day 1.
On the defensive side of the ball, mastermind Chris Jones made it known among his players that he will be on their tails from the opening moments of practice as he was vocal about his expectations. To conclude practice, Jones left the field with more than a few reasons to smile as outgoing defensive backs Ahmad Carroll and Javes Lewis robbed the offence with a set of interceptions to conclude an impressive day for the defence. Carroll dove into the endzone to celebrate his pick in style.
The Argonauts rookies are back on the field on Thursday at 2:15 p.m. on the upper field at UTM.
