TORONTO –It was not all doom and gloom from Saturday night’s loss to the Edmonton Eskimos. In fact, the Toronto Argonauts Football Club would like to announce a huge achievement on behalf of WR/KR Chad Owens.
On Saturday night, Owens was all over the field on both offence and special teams, totalling 324 all-purpose yards. Not only was a this new personal best for the Flyin’ Hawaiian, but Owens has once again put himself in the CFL record books.
Owens has joined some elite company, becoming only the third player in CFL history to have a 100, 100, 100 game.
Owens totalled 100 yards receiving on six receptions, 111 yards on four kick returns and 105 yards on seven punt return attempts. He also added one rush attempt for eight yards.
This feat has only been accomplished two other times in CFL history.
Albert Johnson III of Winnipeg did the deed on July 21, 2000, where he recorded a CFL record 474 combined yards with 152 receiving, 198 kickoff and 1 punt return and 122 FG miss yards.
The second player was Earl Winfield, who had 400 combined yards on September 5, 1988. His record day broke down as 132 receiving yards with over 100 yards on both punts and kicks.
This is a fantastic achievement for Owens and something that will have his name etched in CFL record books for a long time.
