The Argos revamped secondary kept Matthews, the leader in receiving yards after three weeks, fully in check for the whole game. QB Alex Brink had intentions to hit Matthews deep on numerous occasions, but if the ball was in the air coming towards Matthews you could bet there were two Argos defenders right there with him. Matthews finished the day with one reception for 16 yards. Give the win to the Argos secondary.
It was just another day at the office for Andre Durie. He once again led his team in receptions and yardage (5 for 91), and added a season high 50 yard catch. For his efforts, Durie has now crept to within 11 yards of Matthews for the # 1 spot in the CFL for receiving yards.
TORONTO— Every week, argonauts.ca highlights one of the marquee head to head matchups for fans to watch out for before the Boatmens next game. This Weneday, The Bluebombers are in town looking to pick up their first win of the season. Though they sit at 0-3 on the year, they do boast a lethal passing attack as they roster the current leader in receiving yards. As a result, we will turn our attention to the guys that lineup out wide, wide receivers Andre Durie and Chris Matthews.
Though the Blue Bombers sit at 0-3 so far this season and have had some issues with injuries to their quarterbacks, they still boast the league leader in receiving yards.
With 350 yards on 20 receptions, Matthews sits atop the CFL in receiving yards, which is amazing considering this is his first year in the CFL and he has had to deal with injuries to his starting quarterbacks.
Nevertheless, the rookie out of Kentucky has shown that he can play at the CFL level and has laid waste to opposing secondary’s. Matthews has recorded a receiving touchdown in all three Bombers games this season, making him an important factor for defensive backs coach Orlando Steinhauer when scheming for Winnipeg.
Luckily, the Argonauts defence has been stellar against the pass this season as they are tops in the league in fewest net passing yards allowed with only 653 which averages to just 217 yards passing against per game. As a result, they have had the fewest passes completed against with just 53.
If the Argos can continue their success on defence and lock down Matthews, they should be in a great situation to come out with a win against Winnipeg.

Andre Durie is off to the best start of his career in the CFL, which has many people taking notice.
With 23 receptions for 266 yards, Durie is well on his way to passing his career high single season numbers of 54 catches for 665 yards. Durie’s 266 yards to this point in the season is good for second in the league in total receiving yards. This is due in large part to the chemistry he has quickly developed with new quarterback Ricky Ray who often uses Durie as a check down option on passing plays.
Though Durie has yet to find the endzone this season, he is in the top of the league in yards after the catch and was pivotal in setting up the game winning field goal in week 2. After catching a short pass from Ray, Durie turned what looked like a small gain into a huge play and set up the Argos to get their first win of the season.
Again in week three versus Hamilton, Ray went to Durie often as he totaled nine catches in the contest for 72 yards. The nine receptions for Durie was a team high for the second week in a row.
Durie will look to continue his early success against Winnipeg, a team that has shut him down when they have faced off. In their last meeting with the Bombers, Durie has zero receptions and one carry for negative one yard. With Ricky Ray in town, that fortune is sure to change and look for Durie to get into the endzone for the first time this season.
