TORONTO – It’s official, the Toronto Argonauts have the Calgary Stampeders’ number. After another win against the Stamps on Saturday night (22-14), the Argos have extended their winning streak against Calgary to five straight games.

The streak dates back to July 14th 2010, where the Argos started their dominance of Calgary with a 27-24 win. In that game, starting QB Cleo Lemon threw for just 187 yards, but TD’s by RB Jeff Johnson, four field goals from K/P Grant Shaw and three INT’s from the defence was enough to put the Argos over the top.
Then in 2011, the Argos continued their winning ways against their Western Division foes, going 2-0. The first victory cam on Canada Day, where the Boatmen went into McMahon and pulled out a hard fought 23-21 victory. The highlight from the game came from the foot of Noel Prefontaine, who hit a massive 43-yard field goal with 17 seconds left on the clock to seal the win. The next matchup came on October 14th, when the Argos pulled out a 31-29 victory in a spoiler role. Chad Owens earned 266 All Purpose Yards, and “Pre” had to once again show nerves of steel and hit another game winning field goal, this time with no time left.
2012 has yielded much of the same for the Boatmen as Prefontaine sealed the home opener this season with a last second kick to give the Argos a 39-36 win. That game saw Qb Ricky Ray throw for 407 yards with two TD’s, which were both to rookie WR Dontrelle Inman (his first TD’s in the CFL). Inman totaled three catches for 107 yards in that game.
In the most recent instalment, it was the Argos stout defence that held the Stamps in check for most of the evening. Kicking, once again, was a factor; however, this time it was newcomer Swayze Waters who earned the accolades, going a perfect 5 for 5 in field goal attempts, and scoring a total of 16 points in the Argos 22-14 win.
In total, the Argos hold a + 18 point differential throughout the five game winning streak.
Since 1961, the teams are .500 against each other as they are 41 and 41 in 82 games played, a rather surprising statistic dating back over 50 years.
With no games left against the Stamps this season, the only way that .500 record can be decided in 2012 would be through a rare carry-over playoff scenario, or in the 100th Grey Cup game on November 25th.
