TORONTO – Winners of three of their last four games, and currently in first place in the East Division, the Toronto Argonauts return home to Rogers Centre this Monday, August 27 at 7:30 p.m. where they will host the Edmonton Eskimos and honour more than 15 Canadian London 2012 Olympians.
Monday’s game will feature some of Canada’s finest athletes, both on the field and in the stands. Double Blue, Canadian stars like Andre Durie, top-10 in CFL receiving, will be thrilled to share the spotlight with Canada’s most celebrated Olympic athletes like gold medalist Rosie MacLennan (Women’s Trampoline), silver medalists Adam Van Koeverden (Men’s 1,000 metre Kayak), Cristy Nurse, Lesley Thompson-Willie and Rachelle Viinberg (all of Women’s 8 Rowing team), and Rob Gibson (Men’s 8 Rowing team), as well as Bronze medalists Melanie Booth, Diane Matheson and Robyn Gayle (all of the Women’s Soccer team). Also honoured will be Katrina Cameron, Rosie Cossar, Anjelika Reznik and Kelsey Titmarsh (all of the Women’s Rythmic Gymnastics Team), Victoria Moors (Women’s Artistic Gymnastics), Joe Bartoch (Men’s Swimming), Jason Burnett (Men’s Trampoline), and Karen Cockburn (Women’s Trampoline).
Presented by Pizza Pizza, this week’s match will be headlined on the gridiron by the CFL’s combined yards leader, WR/KR Chad Owens, who is also in the hunt to lead the league in total receiving yards in 2012. RB Chad Kackert plans to improve on his performance from last week in Calgary when he totalled 135 yards from scrimmage, and QB Ricky Ray, currently third in the league in passing yards, will meet his former team for the final time this regular season.
Gate 11 will be the place to be during pre-game as the Canadian Mint will unveil their commemorative 100th Grey Cup $1 Coin at their exchange booth. Fans who bring a Loonie will be able to exchange it for a shiny, new 100th Grey Cup $1 Coin, which will also be used for the game’s ceremonial coin toss! While at Gate 11, fans can stop by the barbeque to pick up a gourmet sausage, prepared by Marc Angelo Foods, before heading into the stadium. Proceeds from the barbecue will be donated to The Children’s Breakfast Club.
Acclaimed 13-year old singer and composer Amanda Shekarchi will perform the national anthem. During the game, the Argonauts will continue to demonstrate their commitment to bullying prevention and local youth by recognizing one student as its Huddle Up Student of the Game, presented by Tim Hortons.
Members of the Argonauts Alumni, who are participating as a team in the Road Hockey to Conquer Cancer tournament next month in Toronto, will be back in section 114 as they continue to attract donations for the cause.
