TORONTO – Running back Chad Kackert had himself a game on Saturday. As staff writer tweeted last night after the game “I thought Jon Cornish had the player of the week award all wrapped up. Until Chad Kackert did his thing today.”

Kackert broke out against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats during Saturday’s matinee to the tune of 239 all-purpose yards as Kackert did is best Chad Owens all-purpose yard impression.
Those 239 yards are broken down to 172 yards on the ground on 16 touches and six receptions totaling 67 yards. Those 67 reception yards lead the team in passing yards as he beat out Ken-Yon Rambo who had three receptions for 66 yards.
Since starting Kackert at RB, the Argos offence has looked much more complete as QB Ricky Ray has appeared to have more time in the pocket to complete passes and Kackert has helped in the receiving game. Since taking over against Calgary, Kackert has had games of 41 yards, 31 yards, 46 yards and 67 yards receiving.
Saturday against Hamilton however, was all about Kackert in the run game. Starting it off with a long 43 yard TD run on his second touch of the game, Kackert amassed long runs of 43, 10, 21, 11, and 29 yards. Three of those runs resulted in touchdowns.
Kackert has added a new dynamic to the Argos offence, which has allowed Ray to be more effective in the passing game. Since Kackert took over as the starter, Ray has a completion percentage of 71.1%, including an unheard of 81.3% completion percentage against Hamilton on Saturday.
With Kackert acting as a pass-catching threat, it has forced the opposing defenses to account for him as a receiver. This has opened opprotunities for receivers such as Spencer Watt, Mike Bradwell and Maurice Mann to work their areas of the field more and show improved effectiveness. Both Watt and Bradwell had their best games of the season on Labour Day and continued that on Saturday combining for six catches for 64 yards.
The way Kackert was really able to impact the game was his nose for finding the endzone. The “Kack Attack” and his three rushing touchdowns is a feat that has only been accomplished nine times in Double Blue history and according to Don Landry could be good enough for Kackert to earn player of the week honours.
That would be the Boatmen’s second offensive player of the week of the season as Chad Owens received the honour last week. It appears your Argonauts offence enjoys playing the Ticats.
