ARGONAUTS.CA STAFF
TORONTO – With the CFL Combine on tap this weekend in our own backyard, Argonauts.ca will be bringing you all the coverage you need as the stars of tomorrow’s CFL teams show their stuff in front of CFL brass. In addition to talking to the Double Blue scouting staff of Ted Goveia and Chris Rosetti, GM Jim Barker and 2012 CFL Coach of the Year Scott Milanovich, Argonauts.ca will also be following the Combine of some of the GTA’s local products.
We have combed through the over 50 CFL hopefuls that will be attending the Combine and have chosen a few GTA area players to focus on specifically. Selecting the participants based on their location, draft stock and position, Argonauts.ca hopes to provide a vision into the grassroots level of football in the GTA.
Argonauts.ca, in conjunction with our Argos Admirals, will be looking at the following local football products over the course of the CFL Combine and leading up to the CFL Draft on May 6th…

Matt Sewell – OL – Milton, ON |
A top five prospect according to the CFL Scounting Bureau, Sewell is a 6’7, 330 pound offensive lineman who played his college football for the McMaster Marauders. Helping the Marauders to consecutive Vanier Cup appearances the past two seasons, Sewell has separated himself as the top offensive lineman in this years CFL Draft. A native of Milton, Ontario, Sewell played his high school football at Bishop Paul Francis Reding. Sewell’s best numbers should come via the bench press test, but his real worth will be proven on the one-on-one drills. |

Mike Edem – LB – Brampton, ON |
Born in Lagos, Nigeria but raised in Brampton, Ontario, Edem played his high school football at St. Edmind Campion before playing his collegiate ball at McGill University and eventually for the University of Calgary Dinos. A 6’1 and 200 pound linebacker, Edem recorded 88 tackles, five sacks, two fumble recoveries and one interception for the Dino’s in 2012. |

John Miniaci – DL – Toronto, ON |
A 6’1, 278 pound defensive lineman out of Queen’s University, Miniaci is a product of Toronto, Ontario where he attended St.Michael’s College for High School. Miniaci had a very solid year at Queen’s that saw him record 25 tackles, 9.5 tackles for a loss, 1.5 sacks and one forced fumble and recovery. Looking to make an impression at the Combine, the bench press and one-on-ones will be a great opportunity for this run stopper to show his stuff. |

Eddie Houghton – RB – Toronto, ON |
A running back prospect who played his collegiate football at Holy Cross in the NCAA, Houghton stands at 5’11 and weighs in at 223 pounds. In his best season at Holy Cross, Houghton totaled 138 carries for 506 yards and four touchdowns, adding 10 receptions for 111 yards. Similar to Miniaci, Houghton is a Toronto area product who also attended St. Michael’s College during High School. The 40-yard dash in day three of the CFL Combine will be a time for Houghton to show he can belongs in the pros, but don’t be surprised if he turns some heads at the bench press and vertical jump. |

Ryland Smith – DB – Brampton, ON |
A defensive back out of Brampton, Smith played his high school football at St.Augustine. A 6’1, 198 pound DB, Smith finished his final year at Bishop’s with 29 tackles and a pair of pass knockdowns. Smith is one of three Bishop Gaiters to make the CFL Combine invite list. His best test results should come via the short shuttle, three-cone drill and 40-yard dash, but the one-on-one’s versus a crop of talented receivers will be crucial. |
