TORONTO – Special Teams coach Michael O’Shea will be introduced into the North Bay Sports Hall of Fame on April 20th. The North Bay Hall of fame has been inducting athletes since 1980 and O’Shea will be inducted with four others; Graham Cobb in Sprint Kayak, John Cordts in auto racing, Chantal Nadon in kickboxing and Jake Dominico as a builder for baseball and hockey.
O’Shea has served as the special teams coordinator since Feb. 19, 2010.
The native of North Bay, Ontario played 12 out of his 16 years with the Boatmen, winning three Grey Cups with the team as a player in 1996, 1997 and 2004. He has now added a fourth ring to his collection as a coach with the win in the 100th Grey Cup this past November. He is known as a leader both on and off the field and was a five-time East Division All-Star (1994-1995, 1997, 1999, and 2000) and was named a CFL All-Star and Most Outstanding Canadian back in 1999. During his career, O’Shea played in 271 CFL games, the most ever by a defensive player, 18 playoff games and three Grey Cup games. He is second on the CFL’s all-time tackles list with 1,151 and is the Argos’ all-time leader in regular season and Grey Cup defensive tackles with 822 and 15 respectively. He is second on the team’s all-time games played list with 205. In 2006, O’Shea became the first Canadian ever to make at least 1,000 tackles in a career and in 2007 he was named an All-Time Argo at linebacker.
