TORONTO – The Toronto Argonauts Football Club is pleased to announce that it has signed import WR John Chiles and import LB Major Culbert.
John Chiles most recently spent time with the St. Louis Rams (NFL) after a brief stint with the Jacksonville Sharks (AFL). He was also a member of the New Orleans Saints in 2011. The Texas Longhorn honour roll graduate spent the majority of his college career as a receiver, but arrived as a freshman backup quarterback. In his four years at Texas, Chiles caught 63 passes for 737 yards and 5 TDs. Known for his flat-out speed, he also played sparingly at running back for the Longhorns, rushing for 376 yards and 4 TDs.
Major Culbert spent three years at Nebraska before transferring to Abilene Christian in 2009. While there, Culbert finished with three interceptions while adding two punt returns for a total of four yards. While at Nebraska, Culbert was both a running back and kick returner. He travelled to Milan, Italy in 2011 to suit up for the Milan Demons of the Italian Football League and most recently attended training camp with the Utah Blaze (AFL).
The Argonauts also announced that the club has released non-import LB Kyle Jones and non-import LB Walter Spencer.
