OAKVILLE – Today the Toronto Argonauts had their first chance to experience some 2013 game action as the offence and the defence suited up for the Double Blue Game. For some, this was their first time playing in front of a CFL audience, and Argos nation was out in full force at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Secondary School. Approximately 200 Argonaut fans filled the bleachers of the Oakville high school to enjoy their first glimpse of their 100th Grey Cup Champions.

Despite it being an inter squad game, players made sure they put it all on the line. Second year wide receiver Dontrelle Inman put up an impressive three touchdowns on the day connecting with Ricky Ray on multiple routes down field. It is clear that Ray and Inman still have the chemistry that saw Inman finish third on the Argos in receiving yards in 2012.
Receivers Quincy Hurst and Trent Guy both had their shots to return punts during the Double Blue Game. Hurst brings speed and agility to the lineup, as his small size helps him move quickly through return coverage. Guy on the other hand brings experience, as last year he served as Montreal’s kick returner and despite boatmen fans NOT wanting to remember this, he did return a 129-yard missed field goal against the Argonauts last season.
Defensive coordinator Chris Jones left no room for error as he made sure the players heard him loud and clear after every play, breaking down the negatives and positives of what transpired. Linebacker and 2012 Argos Most Outstanding Defensive Player Marcus Ball tried to win every play, not wanting the offence to gain a single yard. Rookie DB Brent Vinson impressed fans and the rest of the defence making multiple plays on deep balls, working well in Chris Jones’ defence.
Play of the Day
The play of the day has to go to DL Jonathan Williams, who on a goal line play was able to break up the middle and stop the offence from gaining any yardage. This was met with applause from the crowd and a round of celebration from his defensive cohorts.
