MISSISSAUGA– Once the first whistle blew, there was one thing very apparent about today’s practice: The tempo was going to be 100% at all times.
Whether it was individual drills by position, in the skelly period, or when a full team run was happening, these players and coaches showed that they have turned up the intensity with only 3 days left before their first pre-season matchup in Winnipeg against the Blue Bombers.
The Defensive vs, Offensive line one-on-one matchups proved to be the most heated on the day. Coaches Steve McAdoo (O-Line) and Ed Philion (D-Line) could be heard encouraging their players from across the field to keep the tempo and the intensity up, and the players responded. The mutual respect between teammates was apparent after every drill, as helmet taps and high fives were shared after the battles wrapped up.

One highlight of the Defensive Backs vs. Wide Receivers one-on-one drills came via LB Brandon Isaac, who claimed he was “taking the rest of practice off” as a reward after he was able to stick side-by-side with SB Chad Owens.
Coach Chris Jones had other plans for “BI”, and he was right back out there on the next rep.
Sticking with the defence, a familiar face was welcomed back into the mold as CB Pacino Horne had his first practice of 2013. Horne will be leaned upon heavily to provide guidance to a young secondary group early in 2013, as only he and DB Jalil Carter stand as the sole Defensive Back’s who started a game for the Double Blue in 2013.

LB Jason Pottinger showed that when he is healthy he could be a force in the middle, sneaking through the line on a few occasions during team drills and earning an opportunity to get to the Quarterback.
The Offensive Line showed a great ability to provide holes for RB’s Chad Kackert & Gerald Riggs, much to the appreciation of Offensive Line Coach Steve McAdoo, who after one impressive rep ran 30 yards down field to congratulate his men on a job well done.
PLAY OF THE DAY
Rookie WR Juaquin Iglesias has shown the ability to be a playmaker during the first week of training camp, and during the team drills he rose up over multiple defenders on the sidelines and came down with a completion off a thrown ball from QB Trevor Harris. Everyone knew it was a good play when even the defence was left shaking their heads.
