TORONTO – This Friday, June 28 at 6:45 p.m. the100th Grey Cup Champion Toronto Argonautswill make their regular season debut in the 2013 Home Opener, presented by Nissan’s Participating GTA Retailers,at Rogers Centre.
Led on offence by “The Professor” – QB Ricky Ray, reigning CFL Most Outstanding Player, “The Flyin’ Hawaiian” – SB/KR Chad Owens, and “Kack Attack” – RB Chad Kackert, the Argos enter this week having won seven straight games dating back to last season (including 2012 regular season and post-season, and 2013 pre-season). The Argos’ hard-hitting defence looks to crush the Ticats behind the Argos’ three-headed linebacking monster: Marcus “Wolverine” Ball, LB Robert “Hammer” McCune, and Brandon “Iceman” Isaac.
Fans are asked to be in their seats early to witness the unveiling of the 100th Grey Cup championship banner and a special championship ring ceremony featuring GM Jim Barker, reigning CFL Coach of the Year Scott Milanovich, and select players. Members of the Canadian Armed Forces, including the Flag Party from 32 Canadian Brigade Group will be present during pre-game festivities, as well as the Grey Cup trophy itself.
The Frank’s RedHot Pre-Game Tailgate Party will kickoff at 5:00 p.m. outside Gates 10 and 11 where fans can join the team from Boots and Hearts Canadian Country Music Festival as they present Canada’s fastest rising Country music star Tim Hicks,whosefirst radio single, “Get By”, is certified Gold, will perform before he entertains the crowd at halftime and stays for the third quarter to sign autographs. Lucky Argos fans at this week’s game will have a chance to win tickets to Boots and Hearts taking place August 1-4, where they can see Tim perform along with headliners Jason Aldean, Rascal Flatts, Miranda Lambert, Dierks Bentley, The Band Perry and Dean Brody.
When the sun goes down, the CN Tower will illuminate the Toronto skyline with Double Blue lights to celebrate the return of the champs. The Argonauts will also debut their Champion of Change initiative as part of the award-winning Huddle Up Bullying Prevention Program, presented by Tim Hortons. At each game, the Argos will recognize student champions who are making a difference in their school or community through acts of kindness, tolerance, and respect for others. Throughout the game, the 2013 Argos Cheerleaders, presented by the Toronto Sun, will be back to perform for the tens of thousands of fans in attendance.
