MISSISSAUGA – For the second consecutive week, two members of the Toronto Argonauts are taking home player of the week honours. RB Chad Kackert has been named the CFL Offensive Player of the Week, while KR Trent Guy earned Special Teams Player of the Week honours for their efforts in Edmonton.
Chad Kackert returned to the Argos lineup with a fury against the Edmonton Eskimos, rushing 11 times for 155 yards and two (2) touchdowns while adding one (1) reception for 12 yards. The 100th Grey Cup MVP earned his first 100-yard rushing game since Week 1 against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (112 yards) . In fact, the 155 yards on the ground were the second best total of his career, second only to his 172 yard rushing performance in Week 11 of 2012 against those same Ticats. This is the third time that the “Kack Attack” has earned CFL Offensive Player of the Week honours (2011 – Week 5; 2012 – Week 11).
Kick returner Trent Guy showed explosive speed and elusiveness en route to earning the CFL Special Teams Player of the Week. Guy returned four (4) kickoffs for 131 yards (long 65) and 5 punts for 50 yards in the Argos 34-22 victory at Commonwealth Stadium. In his short stint with the Argos, Guy has made an impact in the return game, posting a 28.8 yard average on kick returns and a 9.5 yard average on punt returns (current CFL leader Larry Taylor averages 22.1 and 8.4, respectively). This is the third time Guy has been named the CFL Special Teams Player of the Week (2012 – Week 13, 14)
Kackert, Guy, and the rest of their Argos teammates now focus their attention on their upcoming matchup with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Friday, October 4. Argos fans are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item or cash donation to any gate for the annual Purolator Tackle Hunger night, in support of Toronto Daily Bread Food Bank.
