Following an extended road trip, Toronto Argonauts football, presented by Desjardins, finally returns to Rogers Centre this Saturday, October 4 at 4:00 p.m. The Argos will begin their playoff push by hosting western rival Edmonton Eskimos in a game presented by Pizza Pizza.
It’s been 48 days between home games – the longest road stretch in CFL history – and fans will be anxious to see their Argos live in action again. This week marks the first of four consecutive home games for the Argonauts in October. With the home crowd behind them, star QB Ricky Ray and the Flyin’ Hawaiian Chad Owens are ready to drive their team to the playoffs. The Argonauts enter this week as the highest scoring team in the East Division and the third-highest scoring team in the CFL having put up 73 Points For in the past two games.
The Edmonton Eskimos boast many faces familiar to Argonauts fans. Head Coach Chris Jones, as well as assistant coaches Steve McAdoo, Jarious Jackson (who was a player at the time) and Kez McCorvey all earned 100th Grey Cup rings with the Argos. Current Eskimos players who were all members of the Argos’ 100th Grey Cup championship squad include CB Pat Watkins, OL Andrew Jones and OL Tony Washington.

October 4 is a special day in Argonauts history. It was 141 years ago on October 4, 1873 that the Argonauts football team was officially formed by a team of rowers who played rugby to stay fit in the off-season. The club was founded on October 4 but they played their first game on October 11, 1873 against the University of Toronto.
Aspiring singer Nancy Vincic will perform the national anthem, and Carol Todd, mother of Amanda Todd and founder of Amanda Todd Legacy, will perform coin toss to help raise awareness for World Mental Health Day. This week’s 50/50 draw will benefit Youth Boatworks.
At halftime, 65 excited members of Jr. Cheer will return to show off their dance moves, and a few lucky fans will be asked to come to the field to win a great prize during Pizza Pizza Musical Chairs.
At every home game this season, the 2014 Argos Cheerleaders Swimsuit Calendar, presented by RedTag.ca, will be on-sale. Fans can purchase their very own copy for just $20 from any of the beautiful and talented members of the 2014 Argos Cheerleaders, presented by the Toronto Sun, on the concourse during the game.
