TORONTO – All year long it’s been about utilizing the multitude of weapons available on offence. But on Friday, the Argos may be wise to play more conservatively. It’s the last week of the regular season and with a playoff appearance on the line, it’s a must-win.
The Ottawa REDBLACKS come into this game with two wins and no chance at the playoff race. Although they have nothing to lose, Ottawa would love to play the upset. It’s the struggling team’s last chance to strap on their pads, play as a group and show the league that they’ll be ready to go next year.

Fortunately for the Argos, the REDBLACKS have the worst defence in the league, which instantly shouts pound the ball and give Ray a game to recover. The Argos don’t need to do anything special to win. They come into this game with one of the best offences in the league and by adopting a more straight-laced approach to their attack with longer ball possession and smarter clock management, they should have no problems wearing down Ottawa’s defensive unit on Friday night.
Once this game is done and depending on the result, all eyes will be on Saturday’s 4:00 pm matchup in Hamilton between the Alouettes and Tiger-Cats, who will play their final regular season game. Besides being a great matchup, which highlights two excellent defensive units, this game will also decide Toronto’s playoff fate. With only one game left and two points away from clinching second in the East, the Argos need the Als to beat the Ticats in order to make the playoffs, on account that the Argos win Friday night. If they do and the Ticats lose, these teams will have the same point total, but the Argos will claim the second seed because they have more head to head wins and game points. Win or lose against Ottawa, if Hamilton beats the Als, the Double Blue are beginning an early offseason.
Playoffs or not, the Argos should keep their heads up high knowing they made their fans and most importantly their city proud. Their offence will have finished in the top three in the league, once again led by Ray, who topped all other Quarterbacks with 4595 passing yards. But if all goes according to plan against the REDBLACKS and Montreal’s defence plays up to par in Hamilton, there’s a strong chance the Argonauts will live to play another day this season.
